GeocodedArt App Turns the World into a Museum

Many places in the world have served as inspiration for some of the most famous art works. Now, if you find yourself in a foreign land, you can forget about using an art guide and use the geocodedArt and give yourself a tour of the historic locations that inspired famous works of fine art there. This new project looking for funding on Kickstarter, and has gathered a database of 1000s of famous paintings from around the world and coded the precise locations their canvases depict.

Viewing a famous piece of art can definitely instill some sort of inspiration or intrigue, but being at the site where a work of art was conceived lends a new perspective on the appreciation of a work, and an experience that can’t be found in a museum.

Chances are, if you live in a major city, you must pass by locations in your day-to-day travel that have served as the inspiration for a brilliant art piece. However, it remains to be seen if this app will take off. Would you use it? One thing is for sure, mobile technology is making fine art more approachable by introducing new ways to admire it outside of the confines of the museum.
