Solvinden Outdoor Series: Solar & Wind Powered Lamps Now Available at Ikea

IKEA is introducing new installations for the SOLVINDEN outdoor lightening series. The Swedish furnishing company has created environmentally friendly outdoor lights that are wind and solar powered. According to the specs, the lamp’s LED bulb shines for up to 24 hours when the batteries are fully charged and it takes 9-12 of sunlight to fully recharge the battery or 24 hours with a wind speed of 4 m/s. Moreover, the lifetime of the bulbs are about 20,000 hours.

Here’s what IKEA says about the design process:

A few years ago we at IKEA started making outdoor lighting that is powered by solar energy. It was a natural step for us to take, because we want to make products that are as good for the world’s environment as for your home environment. When it was time for us to update our outdoor lighting range we gave ourselves a challenge. This time, we would make a lamp that would also be powered by the wind, not just the sun. As we figured it, if the sun isn’t shining, the wind is probably blowing. So, it would be a good idea if the lamp could be powered by the wind, too.
